St. Andrew Nativity School Admissions
We welcome prospective students and their families to apply for our middle school program! St. Andrew Nativity School is a tuition-free Catholic, Jesuit middle school serving young people of all faiths who qualify for free and reduced lunch and empowering them in their spiritual, intellectual and personal development toward college and career readiness and becoming people for others.
Our program is designed to enroll all students at the 6th grade level. St. Andrew Nativity School’s admission requirements and policies are in alignment with the Nativity-Miguel Coalition of schools.
How to Apply

Submit Financial Eligibility Documents
We are a tuition-free middle school serving families and students who qualify for the Oregon National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Students who qualify for the federal free and reduced-price meals program receive priority in the admissions review. Students who qualify under the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG) may also be considered, depending on availability.
To verify eligibility, each family must submit the following documents:
2026 Federal Income Tax Return (Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) and any additional schedules
2026 W-2 Wage and Tax Statements from all employers
If applicable, please also provide:
2026 1099/1099-R Forms for Interest/Dividends
Documentation of all non-taxable income received in 2026
To verify eligibility, please choose one of the following methods:
Email: Scan and submit all pages of your current W2 forms and tax returns to Admisisons@nativityportland.org.
or
In-Person: If you choose to drop off your current W2 forms and tax returns in person, we will make copies of all required paperwork, return documents to you, and provide a signature confirming that we have received your submission.

Educator Evaluations
St. Andrew Nativity School will be reaching out directly to the following individuals to complete an evaluation form:
Current 5th grade teacher
Current School counselor
They will be asked to share their perceptions of the student’s academic ability, social-emotional needs, ability to work with peers and adults, motivation, and the support the student receives from their family in school endeavors.
This insight will support us in developing a full picture of each applicant and ensuring the best possible fit and support within our school community.

Family Interviews
This interview is an integral part of our admissions process! Conducted on campus at St. Andrew Nativity School, it provides an opportunity for us to personally get to know each applicant, their interests, activities, and motivation for attending St. Andrew Nativity School, religious involvement, and more.
The interview will last approximately twenty minutes and allows families to connect directly with a faculty member.
Please note that only one interview day is required:
Day 1: Wednesday, March 31st | 4pm- 7pm
Day 2: Thursday, April 1st | 9am- 2pm
Day 3: Friday, April 2nd | 9am - 12pm

Placement Test
All applicants are required to attend a placement test. This test is both multiple choice and short answer. This placement test helps us understand each student’s current skills in English and math. This gives us the best information to support their learning journey at St. Andrew Nativity School.
SANS will offer placement testing on campus. Testing dates will be announced soon.
Extended time testing: Available only for students who have a current accommodation plan with their school. Email IEP/ 504 Plans to Admisisons@nativityportland.org

Summer Academy Notification
Each application is carefully reviewed and scored by the Admissions Committee using a standardized rubric to ensure consistent and equitable evaluation.This structured approach helps the committee fairly determine each applicant’s overall fit for St. Andrew Nativity School.
Summer Academy Invitations will be sent via email on Friday, June 5th. Families will receive one of the following notifications:
Summer Academy Invitation: Congratulations! You have been invited to attend Summer Academy for the 2027–2028 school year.
Waitlist: You have been placed on SANS waitlist. Admissions will notify applicants and family if a spot becomes available.
Not moving forward: After a careful and thorough review of all materials, we have decided not to move forward with an offer of invitation to Summer Academy for the 2027 - 2028 school year.
Incomplete application: Your application was not considered due to missing required materials by the deadline.
Withdrawn Application: Your application has been withdrawn per your request or due to inactivity.
As a Catholic school serving the Portland metropolitan area, we follow admissions and student selection practices aligned with other schools in our region. While we are unable to share specific factors behind individual Summer Academy invitation decisions, we understand families may have questions. Upon request, we are happy to provide general feedback later in the summer to support your student’s continued growth.

By accepting an invitation to Summer Academy, families commit to supporting their student’s full participation in our mandatory Summer Academy.
SANS Summer Academy will take place on the following dates:
Monday, June 28th | 9am - 1pm
Tuesday, June 29th | 9am - 1pm
Wednesday, June 30th | 9am - 1pm
Thursday, July 1st | 9am - 1pm
This 4 - day program is designed to help students successfully transition into life at SANS by meeting teachers, learning school routines, and becoming familiar with our campus community.

Final decision letters for admission into the SANS Class of 2028 will be emailed on Friday, July 10th, 2026.
